The Altar at St. Mark's is where we gather and around which baptisms and Sunday Eucharists, Christmas pageants, Easter celebrations and funerals occur. One could call this the center of life at St. Mark's.
The sculpture of Jesus in the boat was carved in cherry by Sister Paula Matthew Browne of Transfiguration Monastery, and the table part of the altar was made by her father, Matthew Browne. The images below are taken from the pamphlet created for the dedication in 1979. The Reverend Charles Speer was the rector at the time.
The images below from the pamphlet are to help the viewer meditate on the images within the sculpture.
