Mark 1: 14-20
“Chasing Jesus”

In the name of God: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

This Gospel story we have just heard reminds me of Pearl.  Years ago, when I had just started teaching elementary school, I took my second grade class on a field trip to Story Town USA, now called The Great Escape, in Lake George, New York.

Valeria Young of Binghamton made four cakes themed to the beloved Christmas poem, A Visit from St. Nicholas.

"'Twas the night before Christmas

When all through the house

Not a creature was stirring,

Not even a mouse ..."

Clement Clarke Moore wrote the words. Valeria Young made the cakes to go along with the poem -- and yes, a mouse is indeed one of the characters represented in the sugary confection.

Young, of Binghamton, themed four red velvet cakes with cream cheese frosting around the timeless rhyme, whose official title is "A Visit from St. Nicholas." She brought the delicacies to a Christmas pageant last Sunday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Chenango Bridge.
